TU( Tamil University) is situated in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, and was founded in the year 1981. The idea of this University was for the Tamil language mooted as early as 1925 by the learned scholars of the Tamil society. The Directorate of Distance Education was founded in 2005. This idea took the concrete shape in 1981 under the leadership of the Hon’b1e Chief Minister Dr.M.G.Ramachandran, CM of Tamil Nadu.
In 2005, DDE Tamil University Thanjavur started its new era started at this Tamil University. The University is serving as the cultural causeway between the Tamil Nadu as well as people of Tamil origin or living outside Tamil Nadu ae well as abroad by conducting research and academic studies.
