The Government of Kerala established Sreenarayanaguru Open University to impart higher education through distance learning and online mode, as well as for skill development by deviating from the state’s existing educational system and utilising modern technological methods in all areas of knowledge at varied levels.
This University, based in Kollam is named after the great social reformer Sreenarayanaguru.
Ordinance No. 25 of 2020, promulgated by the Governor of Kerala on September 23, 2020, established and incorporated the University. Sri. Pinarayi Vijayan, Kerala’s Hon’ble Chief Minister, dedicated the university to the nation. The Governor of Kerala shall be the Chancellor of the University. The Pro-Chancellor of the University shall be the Minister in Charge of Higher Education in the State. The University’s First Vice-Chancellor is Dr. P. M. Mubarak Pasha.
Dr. S. V. Sudheer is the University’s First Pro-Vice Chancellor, and Dr. P. N. Dileep is the University’s First Registrar. It is Kerala’s first and country’s fifteenth open university.
The University is made up of Regional Centres, Program Centers, and Study Centers, and it spans the entire state of Kerala.
The Sreenarayanaguru Open University is firmly committed to providing high-quality education as a means of fostering a healthy, inclusive educational culture. The University is devoted to investigating the possibilities of blended teaching techniques across all disciplines. As a result, the University has established its own pedagogical grammar in accordance with the general framework of the UGC and DEB. All of the University’s planned programmes are formatted using the most recent ODL models. It explains why the production of material for various academic programmes is accorded such high priority.
