The Government of Haryana founded Chaudhary Devi Lal University on April 2, 2003, in honour of Chaudhary Devi Lal, India’s former Deputy Prime Minister. The University is located on the Barnala Road in Sirsa, 256 kilometres from Delhi and 285 kilometres from Chandigarh. The University includes 24 academic departments that provide students with 21 career-oriented and specialised courses. It also provides distance education for job-related courses. In the year 2000, Kurukshetra University Chaudhary Devi Lal Post Graduate Regional Centre Sirsa was established. In April 2003, it was upgraded to a full-fledged university known as Sirsa. The University Grants Commission had granted the university recognition. CDLU offers Regular and Self-Financing UG /PG programmes. Admission to the BA (Journalism & Mass Communication) and BA-LLB(Integrated) programmes is based on a merit-based system based on a student’s performance in the 10+2 or comparable qualifying examination. It also provides integrated MA Economics (Honours) and M.Sc. Economics programmes (Mathematics).
