Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) is a Central University that was founded in 1998. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India’s first Minister of Education, a freedom fighter during the independence era, and a scholar of Islam and Urdu language, is the name given to it. It was established with the goal of promoting and developing the Urdu language in order to provide vocational and technical education and training in Urdu. This opens up more opportunities for those who want to pursue further education and training in Urdu.
This institute is composed of seven schools, each with 24 departments that provide master’s degrees, MPhil and PhD research programmes. MANUU’s Lucknow location accepts applications for MA programmes in Urdu, Arabic, Persian, and English. In Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Darbhanga, it has created three polytechnic institutions. It also provides a variety of academic programmes via remote learning.
It is the country’s largest institution for offering higher educational services to students who are deprived of education in distant parts of the country through traditional and distance-based programmes in Urdu language education. Currently, the University provides 97 regular and remote courses, 25 PhD programmes, 27 PG programmes, 15 UG programmes, 2 PG Diploma, 19 Diploma programmes, including technical diploma programmes via Polytechnics, and 9 certificate programmes. It also has Industrial Training Institutes that provide vocational training (8 Certificate Trades).
The Directorate of Distance Education, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad, Telangana, is a charitable institution that has provided education to thousands of disadvantaged Urdu-speaking people in India. Since its inception in 1998, the organisation has grown to include nine Regional Centres and five Sub-Regional Centres spread across India. They help students academically through 161 Study Centres that operate under the administrative umbrella of these RCs and SRCs. The Institute has received an ‘A’ rating from NAAC twice, and Outlook – ICARE rankings 2020 ranked the university as India’s 24th best central university. Currently, the DDE (Distance Education) at the University provides five undergraduate and six postgraduate courses, as well as two diploma and certificate programmes.
