The Rajiv Gandhi University is a Central University that was founded in 1984. Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, is home to the university. The oldest university in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh is Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), originally Arunachal University. It’s in Rono Hills, Doimukh town, about nine miles from Itanagar, the state capital. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi laid the foundation stone for the institution in 1984. When UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi visited the state in 2005, the university was renamed Rajiv Gandhi University.
It provides M.Phil., Ph.D., and PG Diploma programmes, as well as postgraduate courses in over 39 fields. The university has 35 institutions located around the state that are connected with it. This university also offers distant learning opportunities. Previously, the Institute of Distance Education was known as the Centre for Distance Education.
