Rajiv Gandhi University Overview

The Rajiv Gandhi University is a Central University that was founded in 1984. Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, is home to the university. The oldest university in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh is Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), originally Arunachal University. It’s in Rono Hills, Doimukh town, about nine miles from Itanagar, the state capital. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi laid the foundation stone for the institution in 1984. When UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi visited the state in 2005, the university was renamed Rajiv Gandhi University.

It provides M.Phil., Ph.D., and PG Diploma programmes, as well as postgraduate courses in over 39 fields. The university has 35 institutions located around the state that are connected with it. This university also offers distant learning opportunities. Previously, the Institute of Distance Education was known as the Centre for Distance Education. For all UG Programmes / PG Programmes and PG Diplomas, admission will be given on the basis of the Entrance Test

For Certification Courses, admission to all the certificate courses will be on the basis of Merit.

Ans. According to a notice released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, Rajiv Gandhi University was transformed into Central University in 2007.

Ans. To be considered for RGU’s M.Phil. and PhD programmes, candidates must have taken and passed the university’s RGUMPET entrance test, which is followed by a personal interview. Candidates with a UGC/CSIR-JRF do not need to take the University’s admission test and can instead go straight to the personal interview.

Ans. Candidates who wish to apply for RGU’s M.Sc. programme must have completed the 10 + 2 + 3 educational patterns. Candidates must have a B.Sc. degree in the appropriate subject from RGU or any other UGC-approved institution, with a minimum of 45 percent in the majors of the discipline.
