Himachal Pradesh University Overview

Founded on July 22, 1970, Himachal Pradesh University is located in Shimla. The University is located in Summer Hill, which is about five kms from Shimla’s central city. The University’s location provides a panoramic natural view of the woodlands that surround Summer Hill. The view of snow-capped beautiful mountain ranges adds to the university’s lofty objectives and vision. Its pleasant environment and tranquilly provide an ideal setting for further education. The University campus is 200 acres in size and has been developed in a particular architectural style. The state’s only multi-faculty and affiliating university is Himachal Pradesh University. Under 15 different faculties, Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) offers a variety of UG, PG and doctoral programmes. Admission to the university’s various courses is granted based on a variety of qualifying and selection criteria. Every year, the institution establishes eligibility and selection criteria. To be admitted to the institution, students must meet both eligibility and selection criteria. Himachal Pradesh University is home to eight engineering colleges and twelve general degree institutes. In addition, Himachal Pradesh University oversees 17 institutions and centres that conduct research. These studies are conducted in fields such as tribal studies, environmental education, and legal studies, among others.

  International Centre for Distant Education and Open Learning (ICDEOL) is a distance learning centre for students who are unable to attend traditional colleges. Students can enrol in UG, PG, diploma, and certificate programmes at IC DEOL. At the UG level, it provides BCA, BA, B.Com, and B.Ed. programmes, with merit-based admissions. At the PG level, ICDEOL provides MCA, MBA, M.A., M.Com, and M.Ed. programmes. The MCA selection criteria are based on the merit of the entrance exam administered by the IC DEOL’s PG Centre. Admission to the M.Ed. programme is purely merit-based. ICDEOL (Distance Learning) also provides PGDMC, PGDPM & LW, MMC, PGDCA, APGDIT, and P.G Diploma programmes in a variety of specialisations, with admission standards based solely on merit.
