Kannada University Overview

Founded in 1991 under the Kannada University Act, 1991, Kannada University is a research-oriented public university in Hampi, Karnataka, with the purpose of promoting the Kannada language, culture, and traditions of Karnataka. Every year, the institution bestows “Nadoja” honours, which are equal to an Honorary Doctor of Literature (D. Litt.) degree. The university’s prize is granted to prominent personalities for their contributions in diverse fields. Kannada University highly believes in complete learning in order to confirm new knowledge views. Through its research operations, it has developed a number of programmes to disseminate information. Kannada University provides undergraduate, postgraduate, integrated, and doctoral degree programmes with a broad range of specialities, the majority of which are in the fields of literature and the arts. Diploma in Sculpture, MA/Ph.D. Integrated courses) , Diploma in Music (Sangeetha), BA (Sangeetha), and Bachelor of Fine Arts are among the programmes of study provided by the institution. Candidates for all UG, PG, Integrated, and Doctoral level programmes are required to meet all of the eligibility requirements established by the institution at the time of admission. Candidates get admitted to UG courses depending on their performance in the pre-qualifying test. In order to assess students for the Integrated, PG, and Ph.D. programmes, the institution holds several Entrance Examinations.

This university’s vision and objective are to investigate Kannada culture, encourage research studies, and broaden the information base. In light of this, the institution has been giving remote education services since August 25, 2001.The University has observed that in the current world of education, conventional study at universities and colleges is being supplemented, if not completely replaced, by innovative distance learning technology. It is defined at Kannada University as a method of imparting instruction to students who are not physically present in classes. The University sends textual materials to students through email, and audio and visual lectures are also provided. Most of the students who have graduated have found work in the field of their choice — the courses are diversified and even vocational, and there are also extremely casual courses that no official university generally provides. The goal and purpose of the Directorate of Distance Education is to assist people who are unable to enrol in a formal course of study at a college or university due to financial restrictions, family situations, or being on the job.

Kannada University’s distance education programmes have been heavily inspired by the social and cognitive sciences. It is more concerned with learning than with teaching. The institution has shifted the focus of learning-to-learning styles and perception through distant education. Knowledge is viewed as socially created by learners via action, communication, and reflection. It is critical to understand how learning happens and the elements that impact motivation, communication, perception, and learning in order to create effective distant education programmes. Cognitive learning tactics, learner objectives, and motivation may all be included in learning strategies. Kannada University believes that knowledge should not only be generated but also distributed. The textbooks developed by Kannada Institution’s Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) are on par with the curriculum of any central university in India.
