Karnataka State Open University Distance Education Admissions 2018-2019

Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) was established on 1st June 1996 with the assent of H.E. Governor of Karnataka as a full fledged University in the academic year 1996 vide Government notification No/EDI/UOV/dated 12th February 1996 (Karnataka State Open University Act – 1992). The act was promulgated with the object to incorporate an Open University at the State level for the introduction and promotion of Open University and Distance Education systems in the education pattern of the State and the country for the Co-ordination and determination of standard of such systems.  Keeping in view the educational needs of our country, in general, and state in particular the policies and programmes have been geared to cater to the needy.

Karnataka State Open University is a recognised University of Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi,  regular member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Delhi, permanent member of  Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), London, UK, Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), Beijing, China, and also has association with Commonwealth of Learning (COL).

Karnataka State Open University is situated at the North–Western end of the Manasagangotri campus, Mysore. The campus, which is about 5 kms, from the city centre,   has a serene atmosphere ideally suited for academic pursuits. The University houses at  present  the  Administrative Office, Academic Block, Lecture Halls,  a well-equipped Library, Guest House Cottages,  a Moderate Canteen, Girls Hostel and a few cottages providing limited accommodation to students coming to Mysore for attending the  Contact Programmes or Term-end examinations.

Admission Procedure

The candidate may need to talk to the counselors at the university, for enquiries about admission at the toll free no: 1800-102-2493. The prospectus and the application form may be obtained from any of the study centers, by remitting the required amount of fee. The student may apply for the required course online, or submit the completed application form through E-Mail or through post.

The university requires that the student submit the following documents for verification, when submitting the application form:

  1. Undertaking Form
  2. Date of Birth Certificate
  3. 10th Mark sheet or passing certificate
  4. 12th Mark sheet or passing certificate
  5. Final semester/Year Mark sheet/Consolidated Mark sheet of Qualifying Exam
  6. Provisional Passing Certificate of Qualifying Exam

After the verification of the documents, the student must pay the fee for the course, which can be paid in either a lump sum or in installments throughout the course. The university will then, confirm admission of the student, and he will be sent the Identity card, and the admission letter. The documents will be dispatched within 7-10 days of the admission approval.

Fee Structure

The university for its MBA course requires that the student pay Rs10, 000/- towards the tuitions fee, Rs1, 800/- towards examinations fee, and Rs500/- towards the registration fee, per semester throughout the course of two years. The student will need to pay additional fee to re-sit for an exam. The fee for the online MBA courses is Rs52, 500/- when paid as a lump sum; and Rs18, 000/- in the first semester, and Rs15, 000/- per semester in the subsequent semesters when paid in installments. The fee for the course may be paid through many modes including Bank Transfer, Demand Draft, Online via Credit/Debit Card.

Eligibility Criteria

For admission into the MBA courses at the university, it is required that the student must be a graduate (Minimum 3 years) in any discipline from any of the recognized universities with a minimum aggregate of 50%. For the Executive MBA, the student must additionally have a work experience of a minimum of 3 years.
