UGC SAYS DISTANCE AND ONLINE DEGREES EQUIVALENT TO REGULAR DEGREES
The UGC has stated that degrees conferred by approved universities via remote or online learning will be treated on par with traditional education degrees. ODL and online degrees will henceforth be considered ordinary degrees.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has stated that degrees earned through remote and online learning from accredited schools will be treated on par with traditional education degrees. According to UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain, the degree and diploma granted by higher educational institutions from graduation to postgraduate level through open and distance or online mode will be treated on par with traditional education medium degree and diploma.
According to Rule 22 of the UGC (Open and Distance Learning Programme and Online Programme) Regulations, the decision has been made.
The UGC Open and Distance Learning Programmes Regulations 2020 were recently updated by the Commission in an effort to draw more international students and increase their enrolment in online courses. The modification was made as a result of the Ministry of External Affairs’ discovery that numerous applications from international students had been turned down because their passports had expired or were not submitted.
The UGC allowed academic partnerships in April so that Indian and international higher education institutions could offer joint and dual degree programs. Institutions around the nation can now collaborate with universities abroad to offer students dual, joint, and twinning degree programs.
