The Thiruvalluvar University was established in Vellore district of Tamilnadu by the Government of Tamilnadu in October 2002 under the Thiruvalluvar University Act, 2002. (Government of Tamilnadu Act 32/2002). The University was named after the great Tamil Saint poet “Thiruvalluvar”. The University is located in a sprawling campus of about 112.68 acres at the Serkkadu near Vallimalai about sixteen km away from the Vellore City on the Ranipet-Chittoor Trunk Road. It is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (A.I.U.).

In the University, every effort is harnessed to make Educational Institution as temple of learning. The aim of this University is to provide facilities for advancement in Research and dissemination of knowledge with a special focus on the economic and social upliftment of the marginalised who live in the four districts a viz Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram and Cuddalore which are economically, socially, educationally and geographically backward districts wherein majority of the people live in rural areas with abject poverty. Especially the Vellore district comprises a thick population of Adivasis and Scheduled Tribes who are yet to attain empowerment in higher education. The University to provide for research and for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge with a focus on the economic and social upliftment of oppressed classes including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Most Backward Classes, Denotified Communities, and Backward Classes.

The aim of this University is to provide facilities for advancement in Research and dissemination of Knowledge with focus on the Economic and Social upliftment of the society.

School of Distance Education (SDE)

School of Distance Education (SDE) of Thiruvalluvar University has come into existence from the academic year 2011-12.

Yes — the MBA (Correspondence/Distance) program is offered under the Thiruvalluvar Institute of Distance Education (TIDE), established in 2011, and recognized by UGC.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

  • Application Forms will NOT be issued in the University.
  • All the communication needs to be sent through email only
  • The candidates who have passed their qualifying examination from other Universities shall obtain the Eligibility Certificate from Thiruvalluvar University and submit the same at the time of admission to the course of study.
  • To obtain the Eligibility Certificate, application form can be downloaded from the University website www.tvu.edu.in. (Under Admission -> Download Applications) and candidates are directed to contact the Admission section of this University.
  • University is not responsible for any postal delay or loss in transit.
  • Admissions are purely on merit basis.
  • Numbers of seats are limited to each department offering the courses and selections are based on the Reservation Policy prescribed by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu.
  • All types of Government scholarship for BC,MBC,SC/ST students and Fee waiver for SC/ST students as per the Tamilnadu Government Norms.
  • Separate application for each course should be submitted. Otherwise the application will be rejected.
  • If the particulars given by the applicant found incorrect, the applicant is liable for legal action and his/her admission will be cancelled.
  • The University reserves the right either to conduct or cancel the courses offered by the University without any intimation.
  • Applicants are requested to note down their application numbers and name of the course for future reference.
  • The following guidelines (G.O. (D) No. 147, Higher Education(G1) Department, dated 22.05.2024), specifically given for admission to differently abled person are given below. 

A. Point no. 11. Age limit relaxation of fives year for differently abled candidates as per the G.O. Ms. No 239, S.W. dated 3-9-93.

B. Point no. 27. Procedure for Differently Abled Quota clearly mentioned as 5 seat out of every 100 seat shall be reserved for Differently Abled person as per the Rule of Reservation.
C. G.O. (Ms). No. 30, Walfare of differently abled persons department,  28.06.2010, the Differently Abled Person exemption for paying the tuition and special fees to the University / College.
