The admission process for the foundation level of the BS degree involves two methods – regular entry or JEE-based entry.

IIT Madras has responded to the growing demand from students by introducing a four-year BS Degree in Data Science and Applications, as an option for its Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Programming and Data Science. According to a release by the institution, students enrolled in the BS degree program will have the opportunity to undertake an 8-month apprenticeship or project with companies or research institutes.

According to IIT Madras, the BS degree program in Data Science and Applications is structured to provide students with various entry and exit options, allowing them to earn a certificate, diploma, or degree based on their preferences and needs. This approach provides learners with greater flexibility and empowers them to tailor their educational journey to their goals.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has introduced a new four-year BS Degree in Data Science and Applications in response to high demand from students. Previously, the institution offered a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Programming and Data Science, which also includes the option for an 8-month apprenticeship or project with companies or research institutes. The new BS degree program allows students to earn a certificate, diploma, or degree and offers multiple entry and exit options.

The program focuses on teaching students to manage data, visualize patterns, model uncertainties, and build models that help make effective business decisions, with an emphasis on hands-on training and experiential learning. The institution also provides internships and placement opportunities for students who have completed the diploma level of the program. It is important to note that JEE is not required for admission to this program.

The unique feature of this program is that it allows students to study at IIT Madras without having to take the highly competitive Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). This directly benefits the students from rural areas and economically disadvantaged backgrounds for whom attending JEE coaching classes would be a significant hurdle. The program also offers up to 100 percent scholarships for deserving students in financial need.

The program is open for students who are currently in Class 12 and seeking admission. Once they successfully complete their Class 12, they can start the program. The program is available for students from any stream, and there is no age limit for enrollment, according to the institute.

According to the institute, students who have studied English and Mathematics in Class 10 are eligible to apply. Moreover, as the classes are conducted online, there are no geographic limitations.
