CUET UG 2023: BHU has received the second-highest number of applications among central universities, following Delhi University.

Starting on May 21, Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi will initiate the admission process for its undergraduate programs. The university presently provides over 700 courses, including BA LLB, BA Hons in Arts, Dance, Indian Languages, Economics, Sociology, and BSc in Zoology, Geography, and Physics, among others. As per the official notification, the admission for 33 courses will be carried out through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Banaras Hindu University comprises five institutes, which consist of Science and Medical Science, and 16 faculties, including Commerce, Law, Arts, Education, and others. Additionally, BHU has a total of 135 departments.

BHU emerges as the preferred choice for CUET candidates

In 2022, Banaras Hindu University, a centrally governed institution, garnered 4.34 lakh applications through CUET, making it the second university to receive such a substantial number of applications. This year, BHU intends to administer entrance exams for 33 courses via CUET.

The length of the programmes offered by the university is contingent upon the programme itself. The undergraduate programmes span three years, the postgraduate programmes last for two years, and the duration of the diploma programmes varies between one to two years, depending on the specific diploma programme.

BHU Student Scholarship Opportunities

BHU provides a range of scholarships to students belonging to diverse categories such as SC, ST, persons with disabilities, OBC, single girls, economically disadvantaged sections, and meritorious students. These scholarships are provided by the university, state, and central governments, along with several non-governmental organisations, to support the education of students from various backgrounds.

The university has implemented a scholarship initiative for students belonging to below-poverty-line (BPL) families, which will transfer Rs 25,000 per year to the bank accounts of eligible students. Another scholarship scheme offered by the university is aimed at providing Rs 25,000 per year to Divyang (differently-abled) students.

History

Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya founded Banaras Hindu University in 1916 with the support of Dr Annie Besant. It was established through the BHU Act 1915 passed by the Parliament. BHU has produced several prominent alumni, such as Prof. C.N.R Rao, Dr Yelavarthy Nayudamma, Prof V Krishnan, Prof Paramasivam Natarajan, Prof G Vijay Nair, and many more.
