LEC provides foundation courses in English for students who did not have English as a medium of instruction before coming to JNU and may find it challenging to understand regular programs in their respective centers and schools. Additionally, LEC conducts courses to enhance academic writing skills for interested students. These programs are available in two different slots, 8 to 10 am and 4 to 6 pm, depending on the learners’ regular program timings.
JNU was founded in 1969 and named after India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. In June 1970, the Indian School of International Studies merged with JNU, after which the prefix “Indian” was dropped from its name, and it became the School of International Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University. The academic departments at JNU are divided into 20 Schools and Centers.
