CUET UG 2023 Exam: Participating Universities, Admission Process, Eligibility, Cut-Offs

Jamia Millia Islamia will allocate some UG and PG courses to CUET based on last year’s practice and conduct its own entrance tests for all other courses to ensure timely admissions.

Last week, Jamia Millia Islamia released its admission calendar, which includes 59 undergraduate courses such as BA (Hons), BSc, BCom (Hons), BFA, BTech, BVoc, and others. Out of these courses, admission to 20 will be through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), and students are required to fill out both CUET and JMI forms for these courses.

Jamia Millia Islamia comprises 10 faculties, including architecture and ekistics, dentistry, education, engineering and technology, fine arts, humanities and languages, law, and others. The university has around 44 departments that offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various fields.

CUET: Last year, in 2022, Jamia Millia Islamia received a total of 1,44,134 applications through CUET, making it the seventh-highest central university in terms of the number of applications received.

Unfortunately, just 10 undergraduate courses were admitted last year at Jamia Millia Islamia using the CUET. The 10 classes included BA (Hons) Turkish Language and Literature, BA (Hons) Sanskrit, BA (Hons) French and Francophone Studies, BA (Hons) Spanish and Latin American Studies, BA (Hons) History, BA (Hons) Hindi, BA (Hons) Economics, BSc Biotechnology, BVoc (Solar Energy), and BSc (Hons) Physics.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) sent a reminder email to Jamia Millia Islamia, stating that all central universities must adopt the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) as the mandatory entrance test for admission to all undergraduate courses.

Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP)

From the upcoming academic session, Jamia Millia Islamia may offer four-year undergraduate programs (FYUP) with multiple entry and exit options, in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Currently, the university’s undergraduate programs are of three-year duration.

The new four-year undergraduate programs (FYUP) at Jamia Millia Islamia will offer multiple entry and exit options. Students who exit the program after one year will receive a certificate, those leaving after two years will be eligible for a diploma, and those leaving after three years will receive a bachelor’s degree. Only after completing all four years will students be eligible for a bachelor’s degree with honors or research.

History

In 1925, under the guidance of Hakim Ajmal Khan, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari, and Abdul Majeed Khwaja, Jamia was shifted from Aligarh to Karol Bagh, New Delhi. The university became a Central University by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1988. The foundation stone for a university building was laid at Okhla on March 1, 1935. Jamia Millia Islamia was recognized as a deemed-to-be University by the University Grants Commission in 1962.

Hostels

Jamia Millia Islamia has a total of 7 hostels for students – 5 for girls on campus A and 2 for girls on campus B. These hostels have three-seater and four-seater rooms. In addition, there are 2 halls of residence for boys, comprising 8 hostels that can accommodate approximately 2220 students.

To apply for the hostel, students need to fill out the application form available on Jamia’s official website- jmi.ac.in. Admission to the hostels is based on merit, as specified in the Admission Criteria.
