New Session will start in October: Mandatory exams for last year students( UGC)
On Saturday, The UGC (University Grant Commission) has instructed colleges and universities to conduct their final year exams before 31, August 2021 so that a new academic session can be started from 1, October. UGC also updated some guidelines for the academic calendar in the view of COVID- 19 to all colleges and universities and said they must have to follow and apply for the current academic session.
On the other hand, for intermediate classes which are for first and second-year students, there is no date decided yet for their exams. For both the years, there are similar guidelines as per the last suggested panel. For intermediate students, “ 50% marks will be awarded on the basis of internal evaluation and 50% marks based on the previous semester, advised by the committee.
UGC also said in its latest notice, the guidelines issued will apply soon for the new academic session 2021-22 as well. “ Final year exam or Terminal semester exam will be conducted through offline or online or (offline+ Online) mode on or before 31, August 2021, by follow all prescribed guidelines and protocols.

Intermediate students who want to get admission to UG courses must have to submit their application form before or on 31, October 2021 and can be submit their relevant documents by 31, December 2021. UGC also said, “ If there will be a delay in result declaration of the qualifying exam then Higher Education Institutions may start their academic session by 18, October 2021”.
Students had protested for a long and said online exams are not appropriate to form of assessment when the last year’s guidelines were issued by UGC. Due to COVID-19 last year the college shut down in mid- March 2020 and then the classes were conducted through online mode only.
This year, for the new academic session, the UGC said that, the admission process for UG or PG courses for the new academic session will start only after the result declaration. The new session will start on 1, October 2021.
In the case of HEI (Higher Education Institutions) as per its location the appropriate government or competent authority has imposed the restrictions on gatherings and higher education institutes may plan accordingly. The college or university will responsible for how they manage all the processes.
